Newspaper conservation: preserving snapshots of history

For many people, reading the daily newspaper is just a short-lived morning ritual which ends with crumpled sheets of paper being thrown into the bin. But for the conservation staff at the State Library of South Australia, newspapers represent something much more. They are trying to save these snapshots of history from the recycling pile, and preserve them for the next 500 years.
