Neer Korn talks about his book: “Life Behind Bars”
Russian writer Dostoyevsky once said that “a society should be judged not by how it treats it’s outstanding citizens, but by how it treats it’s criminals.” Neer Korn is a social researcher and author of “Life Behind Bars – Conversations with Australian Male Inmates”. Neer was profoundly affected by the story of Peter Schneidas, a well known prison inmate, now deceased, who first entered jail for writing bad cheques, but subsequently became violent and ended up murdering a prison officer. Neer interviewed seven experienced prison inmates with a history of violent crime and discovered what life is really like on the inside. From standover tactics, to drug dealing, rape and murder, this shocking violence prompted him to ask questions about punishment and rehabilitation.
