The Mid-Term elections in the United States have had an immediate effect as the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives and Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld resigned. Many analysts are hailing the end of the neo-conservative experiment in American politics with former head of the Central Intelligence Agency and avowed realist, Robert Gates, being named as Rumsfeld’s successor. Senior Lecturer in American Studies at Flinders University, David Palmer spoke to The Wire about the reallignment in the White House.
