The British Prime Minister Theresa May has last night been locked down with Jean-Claud Juncker, President of the European Commission trying to get a more palatable Brexit deal to take to the House of Commons.
Chief bugbear is the situation of the border with Northern Ireland. This will be the only land border between the EU and UK post-Brexit, and many are concerned as to how it will be controlled and yet remain an “open” border, which is the agreement the UK has with the Republic of Ireland.
The last thing anyone wants is for sectarian tensions to again flare up in Northern Ireland, as memories of the vicious IRA campaign and heavy security response in the 70’s remain. 5 ‘IRA’ letter bombs have been sent from N. Ireland to England already.
