More than 1200 people were surveyed in a recent study by the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University. While the landmark study found multiculturalism is increasingly represented in national galleries,  it revealed that the Australians who consume Art are predominately white, middle to upper class and highly educated.

Claiming “some galleries were off track in their understanding of audience interests”, the study may now be used to assist with curation of Art in galleries around the country, to ensure a diverse society is represented, encouraging all Australians to consume and enjoy art.
