Legal concerns remain after committee report into citizenship bill

The parliamentary committee analysing the government’s citizenship bill has recommended it be restricted and be subject to greater review. Among its 27 recommendations, the committee asked that the part of the bill stripping dual nationals of their citizenship for breaching allegiance with Australia be restricted to people overseas or who have fled the country. So far legal experts are pleased their advice has been taken on board, but still have problems with how the law is supposed to work in practice.
