Jesuits call for a more humane approach to asylum seekers

The Catholic community has stepped up the pressure on the government to soften its approach to asylum seekers with an online petition supported by Bishops, peak bodies of Catholic health services, social services, and religious orders, and members of the wider community.

Jesuit Social Services has been leading the charge, and are hoping to impress their message on Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who was himself the product of a Jesuit education.
