Ever had the feeling that something is sneaking up behind you? Well the part of your brain that monitors that feeling could be the key to treating mental conditions in the future.

Researchers at the University of Monash have discovered that the things we can’t quite see might be the key to assisting our mental health. It’s been discovered that peripheral vision is controlled by a particular area of the brain that has been unknown up until now. Professor Marcello Rosa, one of the main researchers, believes that focusing on this area of the brain could help improve the way we treat disease like Alzheimers and panic disorders. Dr Fiona Bardenhagen, Chair of the College of Clinical Neuropsychology says that Alzheimer’s disease is often detected in elderly people and can manifest through a range of symptoms.
