In recent years there have been a spate of Indigenous authors offering insight into Contemporary Indigenous Life. The likes of Sam Wagon Watson with Smoke Encrypted Whispers , Vivienne Cleven’s Bitin Back and now Tara June Winch with Swallow The Air.At the young age of 20 Tara won the David Unaipon Award 2004 for her collection of short stories based a fictional character May Gibson and her loving and damaged family. Ms Winch will join other Indigenous writers at the 6th Indigenous Literature Festival held in Woolongong. Special guest of the Festival is Inuit Writer Alootook Ipellie author of Artic Dreams and Nightmares. The Wire spoke to these talented writers and festival organisor Gerry Turcote.
