The New South Wales Federation of Teachers have announced an independent inquiry into the status of teaching.

The inquiry will be chaired by WA ex-premier Geoff Gallop, and aims to look into the slow decline of national education results over the last decade.

Some educators put it down to a lack of funding, others to a discrepancy in that funding, but federal politicians maintain that funding is not the issue.
