This Afternoon the High Court ruled in favour of the Immigration Department and Tahiri's bid was rejected. His mother and siblings will remain overseas not only because Afghanistan would not permit their removal, but also because their father had not given his consent. This remains despite the fact that he has been missing for almost a decade. Therefore it is highly unlikely Tahiri's family will ever leave Pakistan and this case could have consequences for other refugees.

Today the High Court delivered a verdict that left Afghan refugee Javed Tahiri devastated. After moving to Australia at 17 in 2009 on protection visa, applications for the movement of the rest of his family from Pakistan were rejected by the Immigration Department.
