The need for a new national day of observation has been raised by NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner as part of a speech regarding Aboriginal rights.

He urges further acknowledgement of the Indigenous people as part of the Australian identity, and recognition of the horrors against the Aboriginal community that took place during our early history.

The Aboriginal community think that a national day of observance should be about all Australians coming together as a united nation.
