Sydney isn’t doing enough to address the issue of homelessness. That’s according to fledgling New South Wales Premier Nathan Rees, who today promised that his administration would tackle the problem. He made the announcement at his first appointment in the state’s top job, throwing his full weight behind The Common Ground Project. The initiative aims to whisk people off the streets and into long term accommodation while providing them with ongoing support networks. The program which is derived from a similar scheme in New York is already helping the chronically homeless in Adelaide and Melbourne.
