On Monday former terrorism suspect Mohamed Haneef returned to his native India after enduring an investigation that continued for almost a month. Despite the decision from the Australian government to release the Muslim doctor from custody, criticism is still being levelled towards the handling of the process by both the Australian Federal Police and the coalition government, as well as the response from the federal opposition. Former top level advisor to the Howard government Greg Barnes has been one of the more vocal opponents to the events of the last month. The Tasmanian based lawyer spoke to the Wire of his views on the bungled investigation, the laws that allowed the process, and the public reaction to the situation.
