Federal funds needed to tackle domestic violence

Domestic violence support services rely heavily on federal government funding, which filters down predominately through homelessness funding projects. Currently, service providers around the nation are inundated with work and have limited resources. Further cuts to funding in the federal budget could have dire consequences. Last night a candlelight vigil was held in Western Sydney for Linda Locke, the 34th women to suffer a violent death this year. People gathered in remembrance and to support action taken against domestic violence. The amount of action taken against domestic violence could be greatly affected by next week’s federal budget.
