Electric convulsive therapy or ECT is a form of treatment for severe mental health and mood disorders and has been used since the 1930s.

Despite the range of depictions in pop culture and the concerns of its long term side effects,  such as memory loss and thinking disorders, ECT treatments may provide relief for long term mental health sufferers.
