Despite a court ordered injunction from the Federal Government, Japanese whalers have been accused of continuing to kill whales in the Australian Antarctic Ocean. The Japanese say culling humpback whales is in the name of scientific research and whale by-products contributes to the economy. However many countries and animal protection groups have debated this, anti-whaling activists say many endangered species are being killed and the Japanese are acting illegally. The International Fund for Animal Welfare says a new report shows that whales can contribute far more to an economy when they are alive.
