Recently, a young couple in Cairns controversially faced charges after procuring their own abortion. In today’s issue of the People and Place Journal, Dr Katherine Betts from Swinburne University has written an article highlighting the difference between public opinion and abortion laws in Queensland. She says politicians are reluctant to repeal the laws- which date back to 1899- because they think it will cost votes.
