Prime Minister Anthony Albanese today announced the details of a nuclear submarine program run in partnership with the USA and UK.

Over the next three decades, Australia will acquire, produce and run nuclear powered submarines at a cost of up to $368bn.

As part of the deal, Australia will receive four second-hand US Virginia class submarines and one UK submarine within the next ten years.

Additionally, ‘SSN-AUKUS’ class submarines will be constructed in Australia for use by both its and the UK’s navies.
