Overnight 529 supporters of the deposed Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi were sentenced to death. The defendants were prosecuted in Minya, a southern city in Egypt that saw a spate of pro Morsi protests in August of last year. It is one of the largest groups of people to be sentenced to death in recent history and has called into question the integrity of Egypt’s legal system.
