Trigger warning: this report discusses sexual violence. Kobie Hicks is a survivor of childhood sexual assault who spoke out at a forum at Parliament House today about how the justice system responds to people with disability who have experienced child sexual abuse. The forum was held in response to findings of the Royal Commission into the Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse that children with disability experience much higher levels of abuse than their peers, and are often ignored and dismissed by police when reporting their abuse. Advocacy groups including People With Disability Australia are calling for change to ensure all people reporting domestic abuse receive a respectful and adequate justice response.
