Australia has a world class reputation for successful transplant outcomes, yet it also has one of the lowest donation rates in the developing world. And with around 1,700 Australians on the organ waiting list at any given time, the issue of a donor shortage is as pressing as ever. Now, in a bid to boost donor numbers, a proposed new law could see Australians automatically donating their organs after they die unless they specifically object to it.
