The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) currently has 132 000 troops in Afghanistan. Australia contributes only 1500 soldiers. Despite the size of the Australian contingent, the government is subject to increasing criticism about its strategy. Ex Australian Army Cheift Peter Leahy has written about operations in Afghanistan and accused the mission of being ‘confused’. To discuss the mounting criticisms, Nathan Coates spoke to Dr Michael McKinley, International Relations and Stategy expert from the Australian National University.
