A new report released this week by The Australia Institute shows youth unemployment is well underrepresented in the Federal government’s unemployment numbers.

Just over last year, around 55 per cent of young workers lost their job, and economic support didn’t reach the industries where usually young Australians work.

The report recommended a Youth Job Guarantee scheme to avoid youth unemployment rises, which has been applied in some European countries, leveraging the job security for young people. It also recommended having an affordable tertiary education, better protection for casual workers, and a better targeted stimulus spend.
