Australians have always protested loudly about Japan’s whale culling and Canada’s seal clubbing so it may come as a shock to learn an Australian company is involved in the slaughter of seal pups in Namibia. Sydney-based Hatem Yavuz Group is the sole remaining buyer of Namibia’s seal furs. While still nursing with their mothers, these seal pups are clubbed and sometimes skinned to death. Animals Australia and other activist groups are calling on the Yavuz Group to force the shutdown of the industry by publicly committing to not buying Namibian seal pup furs. Hannah Chipperfield asked the Executive Director of Animals Australia, Glenys Oogjes, how she found out about the Australian company’s involvement.
