Australia drops in World Press Freedom rankings

The annual World Press Freedom Index, compiled by Reporters Sans Frontiers (Reporters Without Borders), was released overnight, and Australia was found to slip down two places in the rankings. This year the index placed Australia at 28th spot, down from 26th last year, but the country did fare better than its Western allies in the UK and US. The country was criticised for not protecting journalist/source confidentiality and trying to push for media reforms which would heavily regulate the industry.
