ANZ cuts 1000 jobs, union says national debate needed on banks

The ANZ bank has announced that it will slash 1000 jobs over the coming year. Around 2000 finance jobs have been eliminated by the sector since the beginning of the year. The bank says that it must adapt to a new global environment. But unions say that banks are shoving workers out onto the dole queue at a time when they are continuing to turn a healthy profit.
