The government has reached an agreement with the Greens and Independent Senator Nick Xenophon on the controversial alcopops tax legislation. It has been announced that the government has set aside 50 million dollars for alcohol abuse preventative measures, as demanded by the senators. The money will go towards harm reduction measures, such as having a hotline and other community sporting initiatives. In the past year alone, 290 million dollars raised in tax revenue came from the alcopops tax. Although the Greens and Senator Xenophon have reached an agreement with the Government, Family First Senator Steve Fielding still has the final say.
