Researchers at the University of New England have discovered a novel way to treat common skin conditions such as acne, tinea and staph infections using techniques derived from traditional Aboriginal smoking rituals. Scientists found that when leaves from a plant named ‘Emu Bush’ are smoked, they release a compound that is highly effective against bacteria and fungus. They are now hoping to work with Indigenous communities to develop a product for public use.
