“A Most Peculiar Act” is the second novel for Indigenous author Maria Munkara. Set in Darwin during World War II, Munkara describes the collision between the white bureaucrats of NT capital and the Aboriginal people under their control. At the centre of the story is Aboriginal fringe-camp dweller, 16-year old Sugar, and her resistance to policies of assimilation.
