Environmental group Greenpeace Australia Pacific is calling on the federal government to reject Woodside Energy’s proposed Browse gas project near Scott Reef, arguing it would increase emissions and threaten marine life.
The $30 billion project would be permitted to operate to 2070, past Australia’s net zero climate deadline of 2050, and would generate an estimated 6.4 to 6.8 million tonnes of CO2 a year
Internal documents have revealed the environment department plans to decide on the controversial Browse gas project before the end of this year, with Greenpeace urging Environment Minister Murray Watt to block the development.
