A statue of South Australian First Nations leader and activist Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue was unveiled in Adelaide on Tuesday, immortalising her extraordinary legacy and contribution.

Designed by acclaimed sculptor Robert Hannaford AM, it is the first of six statues to be erected along the River Torrens in recognition of First Nations leadership. The leaders were selected following state-wide engagement with Aboriginal communities and come as part of a $1 million 2022 election promise.
