Social spending not war spending – that was the unified message from a collective of  organisations who rallied outside the ALP national conference here in Adelaide.

The campaigners are concerned about the rising commitment to military spending including $33 million per day for 30 years pledged to AUKUS.

Amid Australia’s rising rents, widening social disparity growing cost-of-living pressures, the group urge Labor for reform. Independent foreign policy, scraping AUKUS, climate action and ending poverty are just a few of their calls.

The Wire attend was on the ground at Saturday’s event.
