The Government has come under renewed fire over asbestos found at Sydney’s Villawood Immigration Detention Centre. In April this year, scientific tests proved the continued presence of asbestos at the Detention Centre. Now, according to documents made available under Freedom of Information laws, the Government declared Villawood to be asbestos-free four years ago, putting thousands at risk of contamination. Paul Power, Chief-Executive of the Refugee Council of Australia explained what it meant for former residents of the detention centre.
