Big developers are intimidating residents, with unfounded threats of legal action in order to silence criticism of their projects – according to South Australian Greens candidate – MARK PARNELL.MR PARNELL says most of these cases are never brought to the public’s attention, because alleging that a legal threat was used to silence free speech is itself likely to lead to legal action for defamation.The Greens say if they are elected in the South Australian state election this Saturday, they will propose a bill ensuring the right of public participation will be enshrined in law.The Wire’s SAMANTHA REGIONE spoke with MR PARNELL and asked him to provide some examples of the sort of threats residents are receiving.
