IR reforms to hit young workers where it hurts most

As imminent terror threats hit our shores this week, the introduction of the industrial relations reforms were forced to take a back seat. Largely forgotten is the effect the IR reforms will have on young people in the work force. The minimum wage for a junior worker under the new laws will be $4.75 and this has disgusted the President of the Australian Council of Social Services, Michael McCallum. He says young people have no hope of understanding the laws and will not know how to bargain for better pay and work conditions. The Australian Young Christian Workers Movement, headed by President Sarah Taylor, have released a report aiming to educate young workers on the new reforms. She says young people are deeply concerned over the lack of unfair dismissal laws and the minimum wage which they may recieve.
