Scott Parkin deportation called into question
ASIO has today acknowledged that deported US American Activist Scott Parkin had in fact not been involved in any dangerous or violent protests whilst in Australia. The admission from Australia’s security agency at a Senate hearing has placed in doubt the reason behind his deportation in September of this year. Mr Parkin intends to commence legal proceedings against the Australian government over the cancellation of his tourist visa. and over his forced deportation. Julian Burnside is the senior counsel in the legal team that’s appealing to the Migration review tribunal on behalf of Parkin. Mr Burnside spoke to the Wire’s Alma Mistry earlier today and began by telling the story of Scott Parkins arrest just 3 months into his stay in Australia.
