Every year in Australia, on average, 77 people are killed by their partners in acts of domestic violence. An exhibition called ‘Seventy7 Pairs of Shoes’ features shoes donated by prominent Australians was launched in Adelaide today by the Status for Women Minister to highlight the tragedy of these murders, and to mark the start of the YWCA’s worldwide Week Without Violence. Amongst the well-loved and well-worn shoes are Cathy Freeman’s silver Nikes, Missy Higgins’ Converse shoes and Premier Mike Rann’s RM Williams boots.
