“Intelligent Design” is a theory that’s been introduced into the curriculum of some Christian schools in Australia, and scientists across the country are outraged. ID, as it’s known, teaches that certain forms of life are so complex that they must have been created by an intelligent designer. In the United States, President George W Bush has started a debate by suggesting intelligent design should be taught in the classroom as part of the science curriculum. A coalition representing more than 70,000 Australian scientists have written an open letter that clearly states Intelligent Design is not science and must not be taught in science classrooms. Driving force behind the letter, Professor Mike Archer, the Dean of Science at the University of New South Wales explained the difference between science and non-science.
