Just as Australian Pork Limited is taking the federal government to high court over the decision to water down Australia’s quarantine regulations to allow imports of disease prone American meat, Sydney University professor LINDA WEISS alleges the beef industry might also be at risk. She believes the free trade agreement with the US commits Australia to weaken its tough standards on BSE or mad cow disease and to accept imports of beef from countries affected by the disease.
