Over the weekend, development lending agency The World Bank announced debt relief for some of the world’s most heavily indebted nations, also known as HIPC. The announcement, which following an earlier pledge of debt relief by the International Monetary fund, means that 18 of the world’s poorest nations will see $40 billion worth of debt wiped clean.
