Those pesky marketers on the street…
In the past, the marketing department of a business was considered an added bonus. But now, in the information age with constant technological development, it is an integral part of any organisation. Browsing the net on the Australian job site SEEK, shows 9,530 new vacancies in the marketing and sales field. It is currently, the highest of all job categories. But one of the fastest growing arms of the marketing machine is direct marketing. It’s an umbrella term that involves sending out flyers to home addresses, and face to face marketing. Businesses rep’s are sent out onto the streets, to convince pedestrians to sign up to the latest costumer service or make a charitable donation. Some view this as harassment, while others respond positively. The Wire’s Hagar Cohen spoke to people from the marketing industry and pedestrians about their view on “face to face marketing”.
