Humans are constantly fascinated by what may or may not be our closest relatives; the great apes. But there’s news this week that they might not be with us much longer. Great Apes are endangered, especially in the poorest regions of the world. This week the United Nations released its first detailed atlas of where the world’s great apes still hang out, and the results were less than encouraging. The UN is also behind the great apes survival project to try and save the declining populations throughout the world. Professor of Biological Anthropology, Colin Groves, from the Australian National University is not optimistic about their future.
