The stampede in Baghdad that has left nearly 1000 people dead, and more than 460 injured, is now causing more problems for Iraq’s Government, which is already divided over its new constitution. The Health Minister, Abdul Mutalib Mohammed Ali, has called for both the Interior and Defence Ministers to resign. He is blaming them for failing to ensure the security of the Shiites on their pilgrimmage. Cat Graue spoke with Dr Matthew Gray of the Australian National University about the stampede, and the implications it now poses to the future of Iraq.
