A small community five hundred kilometres west of Alice Springs is taking health matters into their own hands. The Western Desert community of Kintore has signed one of the Federal Government’s shared responsibility agreements aimed at reducing kidney disease, but they’ve been dealing with problem themselves for some time now. Manager of the Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation Sarah Brown says community members suffering the disease have had to relocate to Alice Springs for treatment in the past. It’s this relocation that has caused a disturbance not only for the patient, but their community.
