Indigenous tourism is a growing industry that’s also giving non-indigenous Australians a taste of indigenous culture. But on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, it’s also being used as a politcal tool. Kathryn Crisell-Probst spoke to tour operator Quentin Agius about his struggle against developers. Meanwhile the inaugural Gnunkai awards for indigenous tourism were announced earlier this week, and the winner in the individual category was Carroll Karpany from the South Australian tourist commission. Carroll explained the benefits indigenous tourism brings to the indigenous commmunity.
