A couple of AFL clubs caused a bit of stir earlier this week when they announced plans to DNA test recruits. The theory being they’d have a greater idea of the physical potential of the players they’re signing. Dr Rob Sparrow from the Centre for Human Bioethics at Monash University explained the sort of characteristics that could be tested for. He says in certain professions, DNA testing could become a necessary part of the job application process. Democrats Senator Natasha Stott-Despoja believes a wide range of legislation needs to be passed before this can occur.
