Government criticsed over lack of support for Chen
The case of defection by Chinese Diploma, Mr Chen Yongling has captured the attention of Australia. Twelve days after his defection and his request for political asslym, he is still waiting for his case to be reviewed by the Department of immigration and the Department of Foreign Affairs. While unions and the Greens claim that the government ahs been slow to act because of Australia’s close political relationship with China, observers note the case has caught everyone unawares. Today however, Mr Chen did have one break – The greens have stepped up to pay for legal representation and the Chinese diplomat had his first meeting with yet undisclosed counsel today.
