Al Jazeera goes global
Taken off-air by various Arab governments and dubbed a mouthpiece of terrorism by the Bush administration, Al Jazeera has weathered many a political storm. Now the Qatar based television network is going global, with an international, English channel to be launched early next year. Headed by a select team of Western journalists, Al Jazeera International will be the first English news channel based in the Middle East. Former CNN News producer Danny Schechter, is the editor of the worlds largest media commentary website ? mediachannel.org. He surveyed coverage of the Iraq war on American and international television, for his book and documentary “Embedded – Weapons of Mass Deception”. Alma Mistry spoke to Danny Schechter and asked him what Al Ja zeera International could bring to the media landscape.
