The trial of Khaleed Doaed in Brisbane is being watched closely by refugee activists who beleive that there is more to tell in the the story of the sinking of the Siev X in 2001. Former diplomat Tony Kevin has stayed on the case and has written a book about the incident in which 353 refugees on their way to Australia lost their lives when their overloaded boat sank. He hopes any new evidence that may come to light in the trial could fuel the case for a judicial enquiry into the part Australian authorities may or may not have played. Meanwhile refugee activist Sue Hoffman is watching the trial with three men who lost their families in the incident. They’ve come from WA hoping that the trial may help them to better understand what actually happenend.
